Georgina Downs

Georgina has received diagnoses of fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, migraine, Morton’s neuroma, and other symptoms of chronic pain - to name but just a few. In this time, her doctors have tried to treat her pain with a series of opioid treatments; which haven't provided much relief.

Taking the above opioid-type medication, produced many unwanted and serious side effects, some of which have made Georgina feel extremely ill, not to mention the cost of these prescriptions to the NHS.

In a state of constant debilitating pain and bedridden at times, Georgina was often left unable to enjoy even simple things like making a cup of tea or sitting in an armchair to watch TV.

Last year Georgina chose to try CBD, with some degree of success. She has also been able to try some pastes with combinations of THC/CBD. These have helped a great deal, calming her pain down so that she can be independent enough and pain-free to make her own cup of tea and carry out other simple tasks with ease.

Using the THC she can get out of bed, wash her hair, get downstairs and sit in a chair! She feels that it doesn’t make her high, but it does uplift her mood. It makes Georgina feel like continuing her hobbies, such as watercolour painting.

It also helps her to get a good restful nights sleep, essential for Fibromyalgia sufferers, and in addition to that, she has been able to cope with the nausea caused by weaning off of the Duloxetine.

Recovering from an operation to her foot, Georgina found that the THC helped her cope with the post-surgery pain.

Relieving her pain with THC meant that Georgina was breaking the law for the first time in her life. She faces a constant worry that she will run out of medication and have to resort to the opiate painkillers that she has been prescribed, and suffer the side effects of constipation, drowsiness, painful stomach aches etc.

Georgina needs safe, legal access to her choice of pain relief. She wants to be able to relieve her pain without causing harmful side effects. Georgina doesn’t want to dread running out of her pain-killing THC.

Due to my many painful conditions, I'm unable to work; and therefore cannot keep sourcing the THC pastes from abroad, which have been more than helpful for me. But, I don't want to put myself at risk of trying to find “street weed”. I just wouldn't be comfortable enough knowing it hasn't come from a reliable, clean environment.
